1968 / Marcel was born in Oss, the Netherlands.

1987 / Study at the DESIGN ACADEMY EINDHOVEN, where he specialized in designing for public spaces.

1993 / Graduation projects: A travelling exhibition of 50 hats belonging to Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and ‘greenspaces’, three new uses for nature in the city.

1994 / Full-time employee of the company ZUIDELIJK TONEEL as an assistant to the scenographer and lighting designer Jan Versweyveld

1998 / He left the company in order to work as an independent designer.

2002 / Winner of CHARLOTTE KÖHLER PRIZE, an incentive prize for artists under 35 in the category of theatre design.

2004 / He was approached to do his first exhibition design.

2011 / Now a specialist in that area, he worked with various museums in the Netherlands, including the Hermitage Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum. In 2010 he designed a very succesfull exhibition for the Ateneum Helsinki about naturalist paintings.

2011 / At Strelka, Institute for Media, Architecture and Design in Moscow, he gave a lecture and workshop, together with graphic designer Mariëlle Tolenaar.
