2010_VAN GOGH MUSEUM / Paul Gauguin, the breakthrough into modernity

In the pavilions of the World Exhibition of 1889 established art was presented, while Paul Gauguin and his friends presented modern work in the cafe of mr Volpini. The artist especially made a series of 11 yellow silkprints: the Volpini Suite. The exhibition room showed a 'reconstruction' of the cafe. In retrospective, these prints contained all of the themes that Paul Gauguin worked on during his life.
In the yellow room with four openings the initial prints were shown again together with the resultant artworks. On the table one could examine a set of facsimiles of the prints. graphic design: Mariëlle Tolenaar
